The Juvenile drama - a regency

and victorian recreation,

still entertaining in the

21st. century!

About Juvenile Drama

What is the juvenile drama?

In the late 18th. century, Theatrical Prints of favourite actors and actresses were published. These were later expanded to include all the characters and scenes of popular plays, so they could be presented at home in Model or Toy Theatres. Generations of children (and adults!) happily spent hours in colouring and pasting characters and scenes on cardboard to present their own productions of the latest hits of the London stage. And not only in this country - Germany, Austria, France, and Denmark were among many European countries to take up the idea. The pastime fell out of fashion, and almost disappeared entirely, but in recent years there has been a European-wide revival of this fascinating and charming reminder of a previous age, and festivals and productions are now once again becoming common.

Finale of Act 2 of The Pirates of Penzance.

The Pirates seek revenge on Major General Stanley, but are thwarted by the gallant band of Policemen, who call on them to surrender in Queen Victoria's name.
